Army Chaplain and Devotional Writer.
Studdert Kennedy was educated in Dublin and Oxford. He became known to the general public for his work as an army chaplain during the First World War. Nicknamed ‘Woodbine Willie’ (from the cigarettes he distributed), he was the subject of many anecdotes. After the war, he served a parish in London and he became involved in the work of the Industrial Christian Fellowship. He wrote several books of popular theology, such as
